Life in the 21st century moves so fast, and sometimes, we get caught up and forget to put ourselves first. However, if we take better care of ourselves, we may find that we function more efficiently and thrive more in all aspects of life.

Here, we mention some of the things that you can get started on to take better care of yourself so that you can do better at this thing we call life.

Just Breathe

There are several benefits to mindful breathing. Not only can it calm a rushing mind, but it may also make you feel more present and grounded in the moment. Sometimes, all we need in life is to take a few moments to concentrate on deep breaths. The best part of all is that you can do it anywhere, anytime. Try it.

Get Moving

Exercising doesn’t mean you have to hit the gym every day for one whole hour. It can simply be achieved by going for a 10-minute stroll or dancing to 2 or 3 of your favorite tunes. Moving reduces stress and releases feel-good endorphins, not to mention the other bodily benefits one can get from exercising.

Smile

Embracing joy whenever possible can help you enjoy the smaller things in life, and it can also avoid burnout and build resistance. The field of smiling psychology is still in its infancy, but smiling may have some positive benefits on your health, including improved stress recovery.

Eat Whole Foods

Skipping processed foods and opting for healthier whole grains and vegetables can have a profound impact on your overall health. Processed foods are fully packed with saturated fats and sugars that cause inflammation in the body.

Whole foods, on the other hand, are loaded with minerals and vitamins, and they are also higher in fiber, which can aid your gut microbiome and regulate blood sugar levels, too.

Embrace Cuddles

According to research, physical touch with loved ones has many benefits. The most important ones are reducing the stress hormone cortisol and increasing the love hormone oxytocin. It’s as simple as holding hands (or bodies) while watching a movie, or you could even visit an animal shelter and cuddle some homeless pets.

Do the Things That You Love

It’s great to try and do an hour of spinning or aerobics class, but if you dread it, then really, you aren’t practicing self-care. Instead, you should opt for the types of activities that you actually can get joy and value out of. If you’d like to start exercising in groups, why not give Zumba dancing a go?

If dancing is not your thing, then perhaps you could vouch for yoga or pilates.

Take the Stairs

Taking the stairs is great for adding bursts of exercise to your daily life, plus it is one of the easiest ways to get an automatic endorphin pop.

Setting time aside each night to wind down from your day is another great way to take better care of yourself. Perhaps you’d like some time to do some journaling or crafts. Maybe you just want some time to practice a good skincare routine before you hit the sack. Either way, setting time aside each day for several minutes can be great to up your self-care regime.

One could say that bathrooms are equal parts utility and sanctuary. Essentially, they’re the place where you can light a candle and wind down from a long day, but at the same time, it’s the exact spot where most of your grooming and getting ready for your day (or bed) happens. In terms of aesthetics, we do want our bathrooms to feel welcoming and serene, but, at the same time, they need to be functional.
