Once the pandemic was over, inflation grabbed hold of the economy and squeezed it for every dime they could. Inflation grew to the highest level in 40 years. The year-over-year inflation went up sharply over the past year.

Taming the inflation rate may be one of the biggest issues that will matter in the upcoming election. According to WalletHub, these are the metro areas that have had the biggest changes in prices.

Urban Honolulu, Hawaii

With a total consumer price index (CSI) change score of 92.19, This area has seen the largest changes in prices year over year. The CPI change in March 2024 versus two months before was 1.50%. The March number versus a year ago was 4.80%.

Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach, Florida

This large metro area has a rating of 90.63. The two-month CPI change for this area was 1.40%, and the year-over-year CPI change was 4.90%. Inflation has been steep in this area.

Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario, California

The CPI chance score for this beautiful region is 81.25. The area has a two-month CPI change of 1.40% and a CPI over the past year of 4.30%. The target number for inflation year over year is generally 2%.

St. Louis, Missouri, and Illinois

With a score of 76.56, this major city has had its share of problems with inflation. The CPI change for two months was 1.60%, and the CPI change year over year was 3.60%.

Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas

This large metro area has dealt with some steep inflation in the past couple of years. It’s had a CPI change of 0.90% over two months and a change of 4.90% over the past year. These numbers have given this city a score of 75.

Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, Washington

This stunning area of the country ties with the Dallas-area metro area with a score of 75. In Washington, this area has seen a CPI change over the last two months of 1.20%. The yearly change was 4.3%.

Philadelphia-Camden-Willmington, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland

This region encompasses parts of four states, and the people of each are seeing high inflation that’s making life more difficult. It has a score of 73.44 for its two-month CPI change of 1.60% and a yearly change of 3.40%.

Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, California

The change in inflation here has been noticeable, giving the areas a score of 70.31. The two-month change was 1.20%, and the change over the past year was 4.00%

Boston-Cambridge-Newton, Massachusetts and New Hampshire

This bustling region gets an inflation change score of 68.75. Its two-month CPI change was 1.50%. The year-over-year CPI change was 3.30%. This is far over the target of 2%.

Baltimore-Columbia-Towson, Maryland

The score of 64.06 was well earned by this large metro area. The CPI changed by 1.70% in the last two months, and the yearly rate of change was 2.60%. Inflation is making it harder for people to get by and get what they need.
