The 10 States With the Best Roads In The Country

When you’re on a bad road, you know it right away. Bad roads make for a bouncy drive that may even damage your vehicle. Some states have better roads than others. Some states have better roads because more is allocated toward the roads.

Sometimes worse roads happen when there’s a very large population that drives them, wearing the roads out faster. Even the weather can affect the quality of the roads. According to Munley Law, these are the states that have the best roads in the country.

Idaho

All that scenery and great roads, too? Idaho has a very high percentage of its roads in acceptable condition. About 94.78% of its roads are good, making it far ahead of most states.

Georgia

Georgia ranks very close to Idaho in its percentage of acceptable roads with 94.5%. Georgia has many scenic routes, at least one of which has won awards for the view it gives drivers.

Tennessee

Close behind is Tennessee with 94.17% of its roads being in acceptable condition. This state has 13 scenic roadways that are listed with the Tennessee Department of Transportation. The mountain views can be breathtaking.

North Dakota

In this cold state, 93.96% of its roads are acceptable. The two scenic byways in this state are each amazing in their own ways. Driving virtually anywhere in this state can be scenic.

Nebraska

If you’re looking for flat roads in good condition, there’s Nebraska. In this state, 92.47% of its roads are in acceptable condition. It boasts a historic byway almost 500 miles long.

Wyoming

Wyoming has seen a recent push to fix up its roads and make travel through the state better. In 2018, only 80.38% of its roads were acceptable. Today, that percentage is 91.51%.

Kentucky

Kentucky has great roads with 91.24% of them being in acceptable condition. This state is home to the 151-mile Country Music Highway where many of the biggest country stars have lived.

Alabama

This hot and humid state has 90.77% of its roads being classified as acceptable. It has a 130-mile scenic byway that runs along the Gulf Coast for exceptional ocean views.

Montana

Montana has seen its road quality deteriorate over the years. In 2000, it had 92.9% acceptable roads before that number fell. The average over the years has been 89.6% of the roads being acceptable.

Oregon’s average of 89.44% of its roads being acceptable may sound pretty low. But, its roads are 38.73% better than the state with the worst roads – New Jersey.
