The City That Never Sleeps-Literally! 15 States That Have the Most Sleep Problems

For many people, getting to sleep is a major hassle. They may find that they have one of many problems that cause them not to sleep. Insomnia can sap our strength and lead to daytime drowsiness and irritability.

When they can’t sleep, people will often conduct an online search for their problem in an attempt to fix it. People in some states search for these terms more than others. Out of every 100,000 residents, an average of 510 searches for one of these terms.

Here are the states that search for them the most.

New York

According to EachNight,  New York tops the list. With all the noise in New York, is it any wonder that they can’t sleep? About 569 searches were conducted per 100,000 people for terms such as insomnia, restless leg syndrome, sleep apnea, and other related terms. Insomnia was this state’s top search term within this number.

Maryland

There were about 564 of these searches done for every 100,000 people in Maryland. The terms most often searched out of this group were insomnia and sleep apnea as well as sleep paralysis.

Virginia

In Virginia, about 563 of these no-sleep searches were done. The people of Virginia are most likely to look up insomnia and sleep apnea, as well as restless leg syndrome.

Massachusetts

People in Massachusetts are so desperate to sleep that they conducted 557 searches for terms related to insomnia. They most often looked for the word insomnia, followed by sleep apnea.

California

In California, the timer “insomnia” isn’t the top term for sleep problems searched, unlike most other states. In this state, 556 searched for info on sleep problems, with the largest number of searches being for sleep apnea.

Georgia

Peach State residents are looking for answers about their lack of sleep. They conduct 544 searches for various sleep problems, including insomnia, sleep apnea, and narcolepsy.

Nevada

In Nevada, 538 searches were conducted about various sleep disorders. Maybe it’s the 24/7 city of Las Vegas and all its neon signs that are bringing that number up.

Texas

Deep in the heart of Texas and elsewhere in the state, a lot of people are having trouble sleeping. Out of every 100,000 people, there are 535 searches for insomnia and other similar terms.

North Carolina

North Carolina is getting less sleep than South Carolina, as evidenced by search data. In North Carolina, 534 starches were done for these search terms in the hope of finding the answer to sleep problems.

New Jersey

New Jersey has a high population density, and perhaps the noise this brings is adding to the problem of little sleep. In the Garden State, 530 searches were done for sleep problem terms.

Illinois

Many in Illinois live a fast-paced life, and this may help contribute to sleep problems. In this state, 527 people are searching to find info to help them sleep better.

Washington

Even in laid-back Washington, people are having trouble sleeping. Every month, 523 of these searches are done for terms like insomnia, sleep paralysis, and sleep apnea.

Connecticut

With 519 searches per 100,000 people, Connecticut is close to the national average for these searches. It doesn’t have the problem that New York has, but there are still a lot of searches conducted.

Florida

In a place that should be relaxing, people are still having sleep problems. Every month, about 516 of these searches for sleep issues are conducted in the Sunshine State.

Arizona

Maybe it’s the heat that’s keeping people awake in this hot desert state. The 502 searches every month show that many people in this state are having trouble sleeping.
