7 Gigs That Haven’t Given Up on Cash Payments

Published:

While online banking and direct deposits have made it much simpler to manage your money, there’s something to be said about having cash in hand at the end of the day. The tangibility has always made me more responsible with my spending and savings habits.

So if you are looking for jobs that still pay cash, here are a few that will put money in your wallet daily.

1. Yard Maintenance

Although many people turn landscaping and yardwork into a full-time gig, it can be a great way to earn extra cash. Nowadays, people don’t have the time to maintain their yards or keep up with HOA regulations. Therefore, you can easily find work by mowing lawns, edging, cleaning up yard waste, or removing snow.

Plus, it can pay very well. Mowing rates start between $30-60, but prices will vary based on the size of the yard and any additional services you want to offer. But remember, you will need your own equipment which can also bring extra expenses.

2. Cleaning

In addition to hiring out for help with outdoor work, people also seek professional services to clean the inside of their homes. And, they are often willing to pay cash for it.

You can easily find clients by posting on local job boards, in community forums, or by sharing your services through word-of-mouth. Most professional cleaners have set hourly or room rates based on the size and condition of the house. However, you can typically expect to earn about $50-90/hour.

3. Babysitting

Another service people overlook is babysitting. With most parents working, there is a huge demand for childcare. You can start by talking to friends and family, local parenting groups, community boards, and online services to post your availability.

The average rates where I live range from $15-25/hr. But, you could charge more depending on your qualifications, responsibilities, number of children, and level of care needed.

4. Tutoring

I’ve always enjoyed working with kids which is what initially attracted me to teach. However, I learned that I preferred one-on-one settings instead of the classroom environment. So, I started tutoring during my university and post-graduate studies.

Tutoring can be very lucrative, earning anywhere from $25-$80/hr. So if you have an area or subject of expertise, you can help struggling students while also helping yourself get ahead.

5. Dog Walking/Sitting

Many of us have pet companions at home. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to get home when you are at the office. Therefore, many pet owners hire someone to stop by to let them out or care for them during the day. You can also find people who need these services during extended stays and vacations.

If you’re interested in dog walking or pet sitting, it typically pays $20-$30 per day. Not only is it one of the jobs that pay cash, but it is also a great option if you love animals.

6. Serving/Bartender

I have worked in the service industry for many years. Although the hourly wage for tipped workers is embarrassingly low, you can make it up in tips. And I’ve learned that you can find a variety of jobs where you will walk with cash in hand every night.

From my experience, bartenders tend to make more due to the price of alcohol. However, you can still earn great tips at high-end restaurants and through event staffing. So if you need some quick cash, look for serving jobs near you.

7. Reselling

Over the last few years, I’ve also learned just how much you can make by reselling items online. If you have items around the house that still hold value, you should consider reselling them.

It takes time to post items and connect with the right audience, but it can lead to a huge payout. And the best part is that it is usually a cash-only kind of business.

8. Bonus Idea: Become a Mover

Moving can be a stressful experience for many people, but it doesn’t have to be with the right help. That’s where you come in – by offering your services to assist people with their moves, you can not only make their lives easier but also make some extra cash in the process.

And the best part? You can get paid in cash. All you have to do is hang out a shingle, rent a truck, and start working. By providing quality service and helping people move their belongings from one place to another, you can establish a loyal clientele and build a reputation for yourself as a reliable mover.
